Thompson's survivors include his wife, Mary Dolan Thompson of Kensington a son and a daughter by his first marriage, Dr. His marriage to the former Frances Woodruff ended in divorce. ![]() He was stationed at the Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, Md., in 1953, when it was discovered that he had multiple sclerosis and he received a medical discharge. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served in Europe and the Mediterranean during World War II. Thompson was a native of Waltham, Mass., and had attended Cornell University. He had been commander of Chapter 10 of the Disabled American Veterans.Īt the time of his death, he was adjutant of the Bethesda chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars and commander of Connecticut Avenue Post No. Thompson was a charter member and past commander of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Retired Officers Association. He was a member of the Navy Advisory Committee on Retired Personnel and in 1977 received a commendation for his work from the secretary of the Navy.Ī resident of Kensington, Mr. ![]() Thompson Jr., 62, an area resident for more than 25 years who was active in veterans organizations, died Monday at Bethesda Naval Hospital. ![]()
